Why This Is Antigua's Most Popular Coffee Tour
Most coffee tours near Antigua are walking visits. This one adds a genuine adventure: you drive your own ATV from a meeting point near La Merced church out to the countryside, which reviewers say is "way more ATV time than we expected — you actually drive thru Antigua and the adjacent towns." The combination of riding, a real coffee farm and a famous viewpoint is what pushes it to 420 reviews at 4.9 stars.
Guides come up again and again in the reviews — Fabricio, Sergio, Eric, Daryl and others are named for keeping groups safe in traffic and making the coffee portion genuinely interesting. As one guest put it, "it was so much more than a coffee tour." It's run by Simoon Rentals & Tours, who also operate ATV trips to Pacaya and Lake Atitlán.

Important Things to Know Before You Go
You need a valid driver's licence to drive an ATV; passengers can ride along but at least one person per ATV must book as a driver. The route uses public roads with cobblestones and real traffic — reviewers love it but advise confidence behind the wheel, especially on busy Sundays and during festivals. The tour isn't recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with heart problems or serious medical conditions, and groups are capped at 15.
The single most repeated tip in the reviews is simple: bring sunscreen and bug spray. The farm has mosquitoes and the open ATV ride means strong sun. Morning departures avoid the worst traffic and heat.
For a calmer, walking alternative, see the family coffee farm tour.

Who This Tour Is For
The Antigua ATV coffee tour is made for travelers who want adventure with their coffee — couples, friends and confident drivers who'd rather ride than walk. Reviewers range from first-time ATV drivers ("I'm not a huge adventurer, but once I got the hang of the ATV it was exhilarating") to groups of friends making a girls' day of it. If you'd prefer a quiet, in-depth farm visit, the Ruta del Café tour suits you better; for coffee plus chocolate, see the coffee and chocolate tour.

Antigua ATV Coffee Tour — FAQ
Do I need a licence to drive the ATV?
Yes — a valid driver's licence is required to drive. Passengers can ride along, but each ATV needs at least one booked driver. Compare it with non-driving coffee tours.
How much actual ATV riding is there?
More than most expect — you drive through Antigua and nearby towns to reach Cerro de la Cruz and Finca La Azotea, not just a short loop. The coffee portion itself is on foot. See all coffee tours in Antigua.
Is the Antigua ATV coffee tour safe in traffic?
Guides are repeatedly praised for keeping groups together and safe on public roads, but the cobblestones and traffic mean you should be a confident driver, especially on busy days. Read how we vet our operators.
What should I bring?
Sunscreen and bug spray are the two essentials reviewers mention most, plus a valid licence, sunglasses and some cash. For a gentler walking option, try the family farm tour. Compare tours here.
Does the tour include chocolate as well as coffee?
Many departures add a short chocolate segment after the coffee tour at the farm, though coffee is the focus. For a dedicated cacao experience, see the coffee and chocolate tour. Browse every tour.
What Guests Say About the ATV Coffee Tour
This was a must-do experience in Antigua! I had never driven an ATV and it was very easy and so fun. We stopped at Cerro de la Cruz, then visited Finca La Azotea and learned how coffee beans are grown, processed and roasted before trying three different roasts.
Way more ATV time than we expected — you actually drive thru Antigua and the adjacent towns to get to the coffee farm and Cerro de la Cruz. Learned a lot and tried some great Guatemalan coffee. Would definitely recommend.
Sergio was such a fun guide and made sure we stayed safe while still having a blast on the ATVs. Cerro de la Cruz was beautiful and the coffee plantation was really interesting — the family-run chocolate shop with samples at the end was a bonus!
